Washing machine not heating water — heater or board

Long cycle, cold laundry — washing machine not heating water. Most often it's the heating element, but could be temperature sensor, scale or control board.

Washing machine repair — from 150,000 UZS, visit usually within 1 hour, free diagnostics with repair. +998 99 411 47 57, @Aleks_Pro_servis.

Summary

The essentials in a minute

First check selected program — Eco and «Cold water» don't heat
Heating element in 90% of cases — burns from scale or short circuit
NTC temperature sensor — machine «doesn't see» water is cold

In detail

01

How the problem shows up

Cycle runs longer than usual (2–3 hours instead of 1.5), but water stays cold. Door glass doesn't warm up. Laundry comes out poorly washed — detergent doesn't dissolve in cold water.

Sometimes machine shows tE, HE, E5, E6 (no heat or overheat). Or just freezes at wash stage.

02

Cause 1: burned heating element

Heating element — main heating part. Burns from scale (especially in hard water), short circuit, factory defect. Element resistance when broken = 0 Ohm (short) or infinity (open).

Test: multimeter on element contacts — should be 25–35 Ohm (depends on power). If 0 or infinity — replacement.

Element replacement — from ~180,000–300,000 UZS with labor. LG, Bosch, Samsung elements cost more. Work takes 40–60 minutes (access via front panel or rear cover).

03

Cause 2: scale on heating element

Thick scale layer insulates element from water — heats itself and burns out. Hard water in Tashkent — main cause of scale.

Prevention: Calgon or citric acid once per 1–2 months, wash at 60–90°C monthly (dissolves scale). But if element already coated with 5mm crust — replacement only.

When replacing element, technician cleans tank of scale chunks — they can clog pump or pipes.

04

Cause 3: temperature sensor (NTC)

NTC sensor (thermistor) measures water temperature and signals board. If sensor broken — machine «doesn't understand» water is cold and doesn't turn on element.

Sometimes sensor «lies» — board thinks water is already hot and doesn't heat. Or opposite — overheats, shows HE error (overheat).

Test: measure sensor resistance in cold and hot water — should change. Sensor replacement — from ~80,000–120,000 UZS. On some models sensor is built into element (replaced together).

05

Cause 4: control board and wiring

Control board supplies voltage to element. If triac or element relay burned — no heating command. Test: multimeter on board output should show 220V when heating turns on.

Board repair (triac replacement) — from ~150,000–300,000 UZS. Full board replacement — from ~300,000–500,000 UZS (depends on brand Indesit, LG, Samsung).

Wiring to element can oxidize, melt or disconnect. Technician checks contacts and terminals — restoration from ~80,000 UZS (after inspection).

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

01Can I wash if element doesn't heat?+

Yes on cold programs (Eco, 20–30°C), but wash quality worse — detergent doesn't dissolve fully.

02How to tell element burned vs sensor?+

Multimeter: element should show 25–35 Ohm. If 0 or infinity — element burned. Sensor tested by resistance in cold/hot water.

03Heating element replacement cost?+

From 150,000–250,000 UZS with labor. European brands (Bosch, Miele) cost more.

04Does Calgon prevent element failure?+

Yes, Calgon softens water and reduces scale. Alternative — citric acid (100g on empty drum, 60–90°C once per 1–2 months).
